From the NYT:

"WASHINGTON — Adm. William J. Fallon, the top American commander in the Middle East whose views on Iran and other issues have seemed to put him at odds with the Bush administration, is retiring early, the Pentagon said Tuesday afternoon."

This does not bode well. I wonder what is going going on behind the scenes?

Looks like "the Baptist," as our south Knox kin affectionately call it, is on life support.

"Newly formed Mercy Health Partners will close inpatient services at its Downtown Knoxville Baptist Hospital location within 12 months, a source familiar with the situation has confirmed to 10News."

Now this part is interesting: "Members of Mercy administration tell Ten News the board has committed to a long-range plan of placing a new hospital in the downtown Knoxville area. The memo also affirms that intent."

Betcha a dollar to a donut they're looking at the Atlantic Mills/Palm Beach property off of Baxter Avenue.

Just a hunch.

"Mr. Rezko is accused of using his influence in state government to stack the board with associates."

There seems to be something with that vocation. Do you think Obama will escape unscathed?

We debated whether to go see the 2:28AM scheduled launch of STS-123. We went back and forth all day. It's an hour's drive down and back. It's scheduled for 2:28 AM. It might get scrubbed because of cloud cover.

Around 9:30 PM we decided we're here, the latest NASA reports said weather conditions were 90% go for launch and the main engines were fueled, so we figured why not. We loaded up and headed down to Titusville.

Some photos after the jump...

What do Donna Wright and Hillary Clinton have in common?

How about a lack of respect for their life's work.

Bingelli = Obama

younger, cooler, smoother and totally untested.

For the Knox County school board to look past Wright's record toward a guy who can't even commit to come for his second interview because he may get a better offer someplace else, well, this is a joke.

But the joke's on us. -- s.
