Probably the best bar in Knoxville and right in the heart of the 4th District. They have anything from pizza, to wings, to sandwhiches and the usual "bar food" items. To go along with this, they have all the tv's you could imagine to enjoy whatever sporting event you care to watch. So go down there, say hello to Bobby the GM, or one of the many nice people working there (Tabitha, Danielle, Cory, Megan, Jersey, etc etc).

Cheers and Enjoy!

WBIR has a feature story that analyzes several races, including some of the Black Wednesday losers, and maps their votes (or lack thereof). There are also maps for the presidential primary candidates. Pretty interesting.

This month's Democracy for Knoxville gathering will take place at Sullivan's in Rocky Hill on Tuesday, February 12, at 6:30pm. This will be our second meeting at Sullivan's and you really should make an effort to attend. The food and service are both excellent!

Plus they have a good selection of beer.

Sullivan's is located on Northshore Drive in the Rocky Hill shopping center parking lot (map).

This, as always, is mostly a social gathering. We will spend some time talking about the Presidential race.

Please RSVP here or shoot me an email at paul@bully-pulpit.com.

It's been a long time coming, and the road has been rocky, but Tesla production car #1 has been delivered to company chairman Elon Musk. Photos at link to Treehugger.

There's still a long journey ahead for Telsa to become successful and toward making plug-in electric vehicles practical, but this is a major milestone. Congratulations to Tesla and to its former employees who helped realize this achievement!

Now what? Commission will be considering appointments. My preference is for Commission to appoint caretakers, and I understand that my August opponent, Ed Shouse, told the News-Sentinel he won't be seeking the appointment either. I'm a little anxious as to who they might select (we want good representation for the Fourth- we've waited too long!!), but going outside of me and Ed is probably best for everyone in the long run.

....

The same issues for the Fourth exist in the 4-A appointment. Finbarr said he won't seek the appointment. I don't know about Ruthie. But Commission may be stuck with a lot of top choices taking themselves out of consideration, the exact point I made in November when they voted (wrongly, I argued then) to delay the appointments until February.

Weather is the watch word at NASA's Kennedy Space Center after meteorologists updated their launch forecast to give space shuttle Atlantis a 30 percent chance of acceptable conditions on Thursday.

The good news for Atlantis and its crew of seven astronauts is that the shuttle is showing no technical issues and liftoff preparations are continuing at the launch pad and in the launch team facilities.

Godspeed, crew of the Atlantis.

Turnout in Knox County was 92,541, a new record. Looking at the presidential primaries, there were 90,323 votes cast. The vote breaks down 42.6% Democrat (38,545) to 57.3% Republican (51,778), a strong showing for Knox County Democrats.

Previous predictions here were all over the place. First predictions from last November were:

• Greg Mackay: 70,000 (R: 40,000/57%, D: 30,000/43%)

• Bill Young: 95,000 (R: 65,000/68%, D: 30,000/32%)

• R. Neal: 95,000 (without Thompson, R: 53,000/56%, D: 42,000/44%)

• Don Daugherty: 50,000 total

Bill Young revised his prediction upward at one point to 33,000/38% for Democrats, and later revised GOP turnout down to 55,000/63%, for a total of 88,000.

I revised downward sharply based on the first few days of early voting to 47,503 total (lesson: early voting in primaries is not only unpredictable, it's probably not a good idea -- just ask Thompson and Edwards voters, plus be sure to include extra EV days in your calculations). After a few more days of early voting, I revised back upward to 61,000 with a possibility of 82,000. The Mrs. predicted 69,591.

So Bill Young and I were closest to the pin in November, with Bill Young having the closest overall projection as early voting progressed. (But he was off on the breakdown. Does this suggest big GOP crossover to the Dem primaries, and if so, are those reliable Dem votes in November?) Greg Mackay nailed the final percentages exactly with his first November projection, and I wasn't far off.

So, who's the winner, besides Knox County voters?

UPDATE: Turnout was approx. 41% based on registered voters as of Dec. 2007, as compared to 36% statewide.

UPDATE: For future reference, early voting turount of 36,719 was 39.6% (call it 40%) of the total.

In spite of it being Wednesday, the day after the election is likely to leave supporters of both the Clinton and Obama camps feeling like they're battling the Monday morning blues. Link...

Clinton did well. Her election night speech sounded like the election was all sewed up and she was the triumphant winner. Her supporters were deservedly jubuliant over the vote they helped achieve. Clinton won several of the critical states she needed to show she was not falling behind Obama. Her stance on health care was apparently more popular than Obama's, and she was considered a better commander-in-chief in at least one pre-election poll. White men were not however flocking to the Hillary camp. As Tim Russert said this morning on Cup of Joe, "Hillary has a white-man problem." He said that time is on Obama's side. "Obama keeps picking up voters, while Hillary already has her voters." He also pointed out that Clinton supporters have already spent a lot of money and may be running low while Obama continues to receive large contributuons through his internet site and small donations. In spite of last night's election results, the Clinton camp has to realize this election is now a neck-and-neck horserace.

Among the five states that he took today, Huckabee takes TN primary.

The evangelicals turn out for the Reverend, throwing a stick in the spokes of the McCain juggernaut.

West Virginia, Alabama, Tennessee, Arkansas, and Georgia. The solid south comes through.

(And boy, how about Utah? The biggest surprise is the margin - 89% Romney, 6% McCain. I mean, I imagine that the LDS are going to turn out for their own, but hooooooooooooooooo buddy. That's a pants-down spankin'.)

Mordant chuckles echo around the house.
