With a bit of creativity, imagination, and community involvement here's what a downtown cinema could be. ( categories: )

Saw this while surfing... Liberal media bias? Not so much. This project did something that has never been done before: It amassed data on the syndicated columnists published by nearly every daily newspaper in the country. While a few publications, most notably Editor & Publisher, cover the syndicated newspaper industry, no one has attempted to comprehensively assemble this information prior to now. Because the syndicates refuse to reveal to the public exactly where their columnists are published, when Media Matters for America set out to make a systematic assessment of the syndicated columnist landscape, we had no choice but to contact each paper individually and ask which syndicated columnists are published on their op-ed pages. According to this media alert, Todd Cook's Social Security Number was "included on printed copies of the final version of the 'Review of Auto/Travel Allowance in the Mayor’s Office' published by the County Commission’s Department of Internal Audit and released to the public and the media at yesterday’s Special Called Meeting of the County Commission." I checked, and it has been redacted from the KNS's PDF copy posted online. Just as an editorial comment, this is pretty much inexcusable. ( categories: )

Sick evil people come in all colors, shapes and sizes. Every race has them. Also does anyone else see an echo of Abu ghraib in this behavior? "Deputies found Williams on Saturday when they went to the house in Big Creek, about 35 miles southwest of Charleston, to investigate an anonymous tip from someone who had witnessed the abuse, Porter said Tuesday. One of the suspects, Frankie Brewster, was sitting on the front porch and told deputies she was alone, but moments later the woman limped toward the door, her arms outstretched, saying "Help me," the sheriff's department said in a news release. I'm probably the only one, but I can no longer figure out where the latest posts are. I gave up browsing down the list as it seems the newer posts are now embedded where they are relevant. I tried waiting until the email alert came and using those links, but they also don't seem to take me directly to the newest posts. This seemed to work with the first link under each heading, but if I click on the second comments link, it takes me to the original first post. I suppose the new system is an improvement, but it's been confusing to me and complicated enough to make me give up checking on the latest posts lately. As I checked in often having to figure out what each comment each new post related to was easy for me. Personally, I miss the old system a lot. ( categories: )
